First it was Big Brother,
Survivor, the Apprentice and then American Idol. Now a new a reality website
called www.milliondollarinternetcelebrity.com
is offering every internet user the chance to become the next big international
Celebrity.
Offering the winner free worldwide
publicity, and a prize of up to $250,000 in cash, the website gives millions
of Americans chasing the dream of being the next Kelly Clarkson, Parish
Hilton, 50 Cent, JK Rowling, J-Lo or Brad Pitt a chance to become the next
'big thing'.
The website is the brainchild
of Robbert J. Lynch, an office manager in Ireland, who came up with
idea after seeing a newspaper article on the www.milliondollarhomepage.com
website in 2005. Lynch said, “The idea behind milliondollarhomepage was
great, but rather than just profit from selling advertising space this
website shares the profits with the winner and can help make their dreams
of stardom become a reality.”
To win each aspiring ‘internet
celebrity’ buys a block of a minimum of 100 pixels on the milliondollarinternetcelebrity.com
webpage, costing $50 dollars. Every time their pixels get a ‘hit’ or are
clicked on it registers on the website. At the end of the ‘contest’, 6.00
pm (GMT) Wednesday 18th April 2007, the owner of the pixels that get the
most ‘hits’ or clicks is the winner.
The website will seek to generate
publicity and draw the attention, and curiosity, of talent agents, model
agencies, music scouts, acting agencies and those professionals involved
in the entertainment industries who are on the lookout for new, raw and
exciting talent.
"How many of today'’s top musicians,
bands, supermodels and actors were 'discovered' by chance? We believe that
this website will give the ordinary person the unique opportunity to reach
an international audience and the people at the top, the career makers...one
that they might never have had otherwise" Robbert said.
"So far the reaction to the
website has been great" said Lynch, "We have singers and bands from all
over the world including the US, Canada, UK, Australia and South Korea.
We even have an Elvis tribute artist featured on the website."
Unlike some of the other pixel-for-sale
websites that have sprung up all over the internet, the winner on milliondollarinternetcelebrity.com
shares in the money generated by the sale of pixels on the site – getting
50% of up to a $500,000 dollars. Lynch said "Being a celebrity these days
is expensive, I'm sure whoever wins could find a good use for the prize
money in supporting their career".
Pixels on the milliondollarinternetcelebrity.com
website have a link to the persons individual website or weblog (blog).
When the pixels are clicked the viewer is brought to the website or weblog
(blog) where they see who the person is, what they do and why they should
be an 'internet celebrity'. "We are looking for genuinely talented people
to buy pixels. We want people with unique skills, talents or abilities
to have the opportunity to step up and show the world who they are and
what they can do."
In support of pixel owners the
website provides a wide range of tips and ideas to prospective 'internet
celebrities' on how best to promote themselves, how get their own website
or blog and in seeking the support of others. “Yes, it is a bit of a popularity
contest, but so is Big Brother and American Idol… I don’t think Kelly Clarkson
is complaining though. We want our website to be something that everybody
can participate in. We hope people will get support from their family,
friends, neighbours and colleagues to become the milliondollarinternetcelebrity.
